H.R. No. 2193 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Dr. Frank B. Ashley III is retiring as senior professor and executive associate dean of the Texas A&M University Bush School of Government and Public Service in 2023, following a distinguished career spanning more than four decades in education and nearly 35 years with the TAMU System; and WHEREAS, Since joining the Bush School in 2016, Dr. Ashley has overseen such areas as graduate education and research activities, strategic planning, and program development; he has also taught courses in his role as senior professor, worked to foster diversity and inclusion, and strengthened the school's external relations; and WHEREAS, Dr. Ashley earned his bachelor's degree in health, physical education, and safety at Louisiana College, and after beginning his career as a science teacher and coach in Louisiana, he completed his master's and doctoral degrees at the University of Alabama; in 1986, he was hired by TAMU as an assistant professor in the Department of Health and Kinesiology and coordinator of the sport management program; and WHEREAS, A gifted administrator, Dr. Ashley was named associate dean for undergraduate studies and teacher education in the College of Education in 1996; he went on to serve in a number of leadership positions, and during three years at TAMU-Commerce, he rose to become interim provost and vice president for academic affairs; active in the community, he served as a trustee of the Commerce Independent School District and spoke to students and educators across the region; he returned to College Station in 2007 as a vice chancellor for the A&M System; from 2013 to 2016, he was a senior vice president at the College Board in New York, working on initiatives to increase college participation for underprivileged students; and WHEREAS, Over the years, Dr. Ashley has been published extensively; he has presented frequently in the U.S. and abroad and is much in demand as a speaker on education, conflict resolution, and diversity issues; inducted into the University of Alabama College of Education Hall of Fame, he is the recipient of myriad other accolades, including the Distinguished Service Award from the Faculty Senate of TAMU-Commerce; he was named vice chancellor emeritus by the TAMU System in 2013; and WHEREAS, Deeply committed to the important mission of Texas A&M University, Frank Ashley has made significant contributions to the advancement of higher education, and he may indeed reflect with pride on a career well spent; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Frank B. Ashley III on his retirement as senior professor and executive associate dean of the Texas A&M University Bush School of Government and Public Service and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Dr. Ashley as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
