44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Dr. Frank B. Ashley III is retiring as senior
66 professor and executive associate dean of the Texas A&M University
77 Bush School of Government and Public Service in 2023, following a
88 distinguished career spanning more than four decades in education
99 and nearly 35 years with the TAMU System; and
1010 WHEREAS, Since joining the Bush School in 2016, Dr. Ashley
1111 has overseen such areas as graduate education and research
1212 activities, strategic planning, and program development; he has
1313 also taught courses in his role as senior professor, worked to
1414 foster diversity and inclusion, and strengthened the school's
1515 external relations; and
1616 WHEREAS, Dr. Ashley earned his bachelor's degree in health,
1717 physical education, and safety at Louisiana College, and after
1818 beginning his career as a science teacher and coach in Louisiana, he
1919 completed his master's and doctoral degrees at the University of
2020 Alabama; in 1986, he was hired by TAMU as an assistant professor in
2121 the Department of Health and Kinesiology and coordinator of the
2222 sport management program; and
2323 WHEREAS, A gifted administrator, Dr. Ashley was named
2424 associate dean for undergraduate studies and teacher education in
2525 the College of Education in 1996; he went on to serve in a number of
2626 leadership positions, and during three years at TAMU-Commerce, he
2727 rose to become interim provost and vice president for academic
2828 affairs; active in the community, he served as a trustee of the
2929 Commerce Independent School District and spoke to students and
3030 educators across the region; he returned to College Station in 2007
3131 as a vice chancellor for the A&M System; from 2013 to 2016, he was a
3232 senior vice president at the College Board in New York, working on
3333 initiatives to increase college participation for underprivileged
3434 students; and
3535 WHEREAS, Over the years, Dr. Ashley has been published
3636 extensively; he has presented frequently in the U.S. and abroad and
3737 is much in demand as a speaker on education, conflict resolution,
3838 and diversity issues; inducted into the University of Alabama
3939 College of Education Hall of Fame, he is the recipient of myriad
4040 other accolades, including the Distinguished Service Award from the
4141 Faculty Senate of TAMU-Commerce; he was named vice chancellor
4242 emeritus by the TAMU System in 2013; and
4343 WHEREAS, Deeply committed to the important mission of Texas
4444 A&M University, Frank Ashley has made significant contributions to
4545 the advancement of higher education, and he may indeed reflect with
4646 pride on a career well spent; now, therefore, be it
4747 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
4848 Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Frank B. Ashley III on his
4949 retirement as senior professor and executive associate dean of the
5050 Texas A&M University Bush School of Government and Public Service
5151 and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and,
5252 be it further
5353 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5454 prepared for Dr. Ashley as an expression of high regard by the Texas
5555 House of Representatives.
