5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Frank B. Ashley III is retiring as senior |

6 | 6 | | professor and executive associate dean of the Texas A&M University |
---|
7 | 7 | | Bush School of Government and Public Service in 2023, following a |
---|
8 | 8 | | distinguished career spanning more than four decades in education |
---|
9 | 9 | | and nearly 35 years with the TAMU System; and |
---|
10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Since joining the Bush School in 2016, Dr. Ashley |
---|
11 | 11 | | has overseen such areas as graduate education and research |
---|
12 | 12 | | activities, strategic planning, and program development; he has |
---|
13 | 13 | | also taught courses in his role as senior professor, worked to |
---|
14 | 14 | | foster diversity and inclusion, and strengthened the school's |
---|
15 | 15 | | external relations; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Ashley earned his bachelor's degree in health, |
---|
17 | 17 | | physical education, and safety at Louisiana College, and after |
---|
18 | 18 | | beginning his career as a science teacher and coach in Louisiana, he |
---|
19 | 19 | | completed his master's and doctoral degrees at the University of |
---|
20 | 20 | | Alabama; in 1986, he was hired by TAMU as an assistant professor in |
---|
21 | 21 | | the Department of Health and Kinesiology and coordinator of the |
---|
22 | 22 | | sport management program; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, A gifted administrator, Dr. Ashley was named |
---|
24 | 24 | | associate dean for undergraduate studies and teacher education in |
---|
25 | 25 | | the College of Education in 1996; he went on to serve in a number of |
---|
26 | 26 | | leadership positions, and during three years at TAMU-Commerce, he |
---|
27 | 27 | | rose to become interim provost and vice president for academic |
---|
28 | 28 | | affairs; active in the community, he served as a trustee of the |
---|
29 | 29 | | Commerce Independent School District and spoke to students and |
---|
30 | 30 | | educators across the region; he returned to College Station in 2007 |
---|
31 | 31 | | as a vice chancellor for the A&M System; from 2013 to 2016, he was a |
---|
32 | 32 | | senior vice president at the College Board in New York, working on |
---|
33 | 33 | | initiatives to increase college participation for underprivileged |
---|
34 | 34 | | students; and |
---|
35 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Over the years, Dr. Ashley has been published |
---|
36 | 36 | | extensively; he has presented frequently in the U.S. and abroad and |
---|
37 | 37 | | is much in demand as a speaker on education, conflict resolution, |
---|
38 | 38 | | and diversity issues; inducted into the University of Alabama |
---|
39 | 39 | | College of Education Hall of Fame, he is the recipient of myriad |
---|
40 | 40 | | other accolades, including the Distinguished Service Award from the |
---|
41 | 41 | | Faculty Senate of TAMU-Commerce; he was named vice chancellor |
---|
42 | 42 | | emeritus by the TAMU System in 2013; and |
---|
43 | 43 | | WHEREAS, Deeply committed to the important mission of Texas |
---|
44 | 44 | | A&M University, Frank Ashley has made significant contributions to |
---|
45 | 45 | | the advancement of higher education, and he may indeed reflect with |
---|
46 | 46 | | pride on a career well spent; now, therefore, be it |
---|
47 | 47 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
48 | 48 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Frank B. Ashley III on his |
---|
49 | 49 | | retirement as senior professor and executive associate dean of the |
---|
50 | 50 | | Texas A&M University Bush School of Government and Public Service |
---|
51 | 51 | | and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, |
---|
