H.R. No. 2242
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Viva Selena Marie Lopez is concluding her tenure on
the Venom Hype Squad after dancing with the group for one final
season; and
WHEREAS, The Venom Hype Squad is the official dance team for
the RGV Vipers, an NBA G League team affiliated with the Houston
Rockets; Viva Lopez, who was born with Down syndrome, joined the
squad four years ago and has since entertained countless spectators
with her impressive dance moves and spunky personality; and
WHEREAS, Active in the Rio Grande Valley community, Ms. Lopez
has distinguished herself through her philanthropic work and her
efforts to raise awareness about Down syndrome; in 2020, she was one
of five Valley residents selected to have their photos shown in a
video presentation for the 25th annual New York City Buddy Walk's
virtual celebration kicking off Down Syndrome Awareness Month; in
all her endeavors, she enjoys the love and support of her mother,
Mary Jane Lopez; and
WHEREAS, Viva Lopez has inspired everyone around her with her
talent, hard work, and commitment to excellence, and she may indeed
take pride in her many accomplishments as she embarks on the next
exciting chapter of her life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
Legislature hereby honor Viva Selena Marie Lopez on the occasion of
her final season with the Venom Hype Squad and extend to her sincere
best wishes for the future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Ms. Lopez as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
