H.R. No. 2290
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Proudly representing its community throughout the
2022-2023 season, the Booker T. Washington High School boys'
basketball team distinguished itself by advancing all the way to
the University Interscholastic League 4A state championship game on
March 11 at the Alamodome in San Antonio; and
WHEREAS, The Golden Eagles enjoyed a stellar regular season,
compiling a 15-1 record against their league rivals and claiming
the District 21-4A crown; they continued to excel in the playoffs,
dispatching Taylor, Gatesville, Houston Yates, and Center High
Schools to reach the regional final; there, the team defeated
Silsbee High 78-70 and punched its ticket to the state semifinals
for the first time since 1952, when the school was a member of the
Prairie View Interscholastic League; and
WHEREAS, Opening the state tournament against Boerne High
School, the Golden Eagles rallied from a one-point halftime deficit
to triumph by a final score of 75-69 and earn a berth in the finals;
the Washington players made a strong showing in the title contest
against defending state champion Oak Cliff Faith Family Academy but
ultimately finished as the 4A runner-up, concluding their
unforgettable season with an overall record of 29 wins and 8 losses;
and
WHEREAS, Excelling with a true team effort, the Golden Eagles
received valuable contributions throughout the year from each
member of the roster, and these talented and hardworking athletes
benefited from the guidance of head coach Vincent Grayson and his
staff; and
WHEREAS, The members of the Booker T. Washington Golden
Eagles basketball team have demonstrated exceptional dedication
and an unwavering commitment to excellence, and they are a source of
great pride to their school and to their many loyal supporters in
the local area; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate the Booker T. Washington High
School boys' basketball team on advancing to the 2023 UIL 4A state
championship game and extend to the players, coaches, and staff
sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the Golden Eagles as an expression of high regard by
the Texas House of Representatives.
