 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, The Honorable Hilda Gloria Tagle retired as senior
 judge of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas
 in 2021, drawing to a close a pioneering career in the law that
 spanned more than four decades; and
 WHEREAS, The daughter of Manuel and Dolores Cipriano Tagle,
 Hilda Tagle was born in Corpus Christi in 1946 and grew up in
 Robstown; she earned her associate's degree from Del Mar College in
 1967, her bachelor's degree from East Texas State University in
 1969, and her master's degree in library science from North Texas
 State University in 1971; and
 WHEREAS, While working as a librarian at Strake Jesuit
 College Preparatory School in Houston, Judge Tagle enrolled in The
 University of Texas School of Law, and she graduated in 1977; she
 began her legal career as an assistant city attorney in Corpus
 Christi and as an assistant county attorney in Nueces County, and in
 1980 she was recruited by the Nueces County district attorney to
 prosecute felonies; she then entered private practice for a time,
 while also teaching at Del Mar College; and
 WHEREAS, In 1985, Judge Tagle was appointed to Nueces County
 Court at Law No. 3, making her the first Hispanic woman to serve as
 a judge in Nueces County, the first Hispanic woman to serve on a
 county court at law in Texas, and the second Hispanic woman to serve
 as judge of a court of record in the history of Texas; she was
 elected judge of the 148th District Court in Corpus Christi in 1994,
 and in 1997 she was nominated by President Bill Clinton to the U.S.
 District Court; confirmed by the U.S. Senate the following year,
 she became the first Hispanic woman to serve as a U.S. District
 Court judge in Texas, and on December 31, 2012, she became the
 court's senior judge; and
 WHEREAS, Judge Tagle's dedication, expertise, and commitment
 to the law have greatly benefited the citizens of Texas and earned
 her the respect and admiration of her fellow jurists, and she may
 indeed reflect with pride on a career well spent as she embarks on
 the next exciting chapter of her life; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate Hilda Gloria Tagle on her
 retirement as senior judge of the U.S. District Court for the
 Southern District of Texas and extend to her sincere best wishes for
 the future; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Judge Tagle as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
