55 WHEREAS, Texas native Jon Randall has been selected for
66 induction into the Texas Songwriters Hall of Fame as a member of the
77 Class of 2024; and
88 WHEREAS, Each year, the Texas Heritage Songwriters'
99 Association holds an annual hall of fame awards ceremony to
1010 recognize songwriters who represent the spirit of the Lone Star
1111 State; and
1212 WHEREAS, Born Jon Randall Stewart in Dallas, Jon Randall has
1313 distinguished himself as a songwriter, guitarist, and producer for
1414 several leading country, bluegrass, and Americana acts; after
1515 moving to Nashville, he first garnered attention playing guitar
1616 with Emmylou Harris and the Nash Ramblers; the group's album At the
1717 Ryman (Live) won a Grammy award in 1992, and he landed a recording
1818 contract with RCA Nashville; he made his debut with What You Don't
1919 Know in 1995, and in the following decade, he would go on to release
2020 Willin' and Walking Among the Living and to score chart appearances
2121 with the singles "Cold Coffee Morning" and "This Heart"; in 2021, he
2222 released "Keep On Moving" and a four-track project called Neon
2323 Texas; and
2424 WHEREAS, Through the years, Mr. Randall has cowritten
2525 countless hits, including the Brad Paisley and Alison Krauss
2626 platinum single "Whiskey Lullaby," which won the 2005 Country Music
2727 Association Song Of The Year Award, and several songs from Dierks
2828 Bentley's 2010 release, Up on the Ridge, a Grammy Award nominee for
2929 Best Country Album; "Tin Man," a tune he wrote with Miranda Lambert
3030 and Jack Ingram, was nominated for the 2018 Grammy Award for Best
3131 Country Song, and the three reunited in 2021 for the acclaimed
3232 album, The Marfa Tapes; moreover, Mr. Randall has produced solo
3333 efforts from Mr. Ingram as well as works by Parker McCollum, Dwight
3434 Yoakam, Chase Bryant, and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, among others;
3535 and
3636 WHEREAS, Over the course of a remarkable career that has
3737 spanned more than three decades, Jon Randall has penned some of the
3838 most memorable songs of our time, and his work will continue to move
3939 and inspire music lovers for generations to come; now, therefore,
4040 be it
4141 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
4242 Legislature hereby congratulate Jon Randall on his selection as a
4343 2024 inductee into the Texas Songwriters Hall of Fame and extend to
4444 him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
4545 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4646 prepared for Mr. Randall as an expression of high regard by the
4747 Texas House of Representatives.
