7 | 7 | | with their success in the 2022-2023 Samsung Solve for Tomorrow |

9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Sponsored by Samsung Electronics America, Solve for |
---|
10 | 10 | | Tomorrow provides students with opportunities to gain valuable |
---|
11 | 11 | | skills in science, technology, engineering, and math while |
---|
12 | 12 | | developing projects that enact positive social change; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Facing off against nine other national finalists, |
---|
14 | 14 | | the engineering group from Porter High School was selected as one of |
---|
15 | 15 | | three national winners; the school received a $100,000 prize |
---|
16 | 16 | | package that includes classroom resources, and the students were |
---|
17 | 17 | | invited to travel to Washington, D.C., to meet with their elected |
---|
18 | 18 | | representatives and discuss issues impacting their communities; |
---|
19 | 19 | | this marks Porter High School's third consecutive Solve for |
---|
20 | 20 | | Tomorrow victory; and |
---|
21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, These outstanding young Texans won the national |
---|
22 | 22 | | contest with their entry titled "HiveHub," an innovative device |
---|
23 | 23 | | that monitors and controls temperature changes within a beehive and |
---|
24 | 24 | | records data on hive traffic, climate, and activity while |
---|
25 | 25 | | displaying live feedback through an app; ably guided by teacher |
---|
26 | 26 | | Autumn Dowdy, the group received valuable contributions from each |
---|
27 | 27 | | of its members: Caitlyn Chavez, Tristin Dowdy, River Dowdy, Michael |
---|
28 | 28 | | Robbins, Jase Gable, and Carmen Condarco; and |
---|
29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, With their fine showing at the Solve for Tomorrow |
---|
30 | 30 | | competition, the Porter High School students have demonstrated |
---|
31 | 31 | | tremendous skill, initiative, and dedication, and they may take |
---|
32 | 32 | | justifiable pride in their outstanding accomplishment; now, |

34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

35 | 35 | | Legislature hereby congratulate the engineering students from |

36 | 36 | | Porter High School on winning the Samsung Solve for Tomorrow |
