H.R. No. 2409 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Six engineering students from Porter High School in the New Caney Independent School District earned great distinction with their success in the 2022-2023 Samsung Solve for Tomorrow competition; and WHEREAS, Sponsored by Samsung Electronics America, Solve for Tomorrow provides students with opportunities to gain valuable skills in science, technology, engineering, and math while developing projects that enact positive social change; and WHEREAS, Facing off against nine other national finalists, the engineering group from Porter High School was selected as one of three national winners; the school received a $100,000 prize package that includes classroom resources, and the students were invited to travel to Washington, D.C., to meet with their elected representatives and discuss issues impacting their communities; this marks Porter High School's third consecutive Solve for Tomorrow victory; and WHEREAS, These outstanding young Texans won the national contest with their entry titled "HiveHub," an innovative device that monitors and controls temperature changes within a beehive and records data on hive traffic, climate, and activity while displaying live feedback through an app; ably guided by teacher Autumn Dowdy, the group received valuable contributions from each of its members: Caitlyn Chavez, Tristin Dowdy, River Dowdy, Michael Robbins, Jase Gable, and Carmen Condarco; and WHEREAS, With their fine showing at the Solve for Tomorrow competition, the Porter High School students have demonstrated tremendous skill, initiative, and dedication, and they may take justifiable pride in their outstanding accomplishment; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate the engineering students from Porter High School on winning the Samsung Solve for Tomorrow competition and extend to them sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the students as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
