5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew to |

6 | 6 | | a close with the passing of Melicia Olivarez of Rio Grande City on |
---|
7 | 7 | | March 16, 2023, at the age of 56; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The former "Mitzie" Castillo was born on |
---|
9 | 9 | | September 14, 1966, to Innocente and Alma Castillo, and she grew up |
---|
10 | 10 | | with three siblings, Rene, Cosme, and Orlando; a longtime employee |
---|
11 | 11 | | of the Rio Grande City Grulla Independent School District, she |
---|
12 | 12 | | worked for 27 years as a secretary for the gifted and talented |
---|
13 | 13 | | program and later as a curriculum department secretary; over the |
---|
14 | 14 | | course of her exemplary career, she distinguished herself through |
---|
15 | 15 | | her strong work ethic, her organizational skills, and her generous |
---|
16 | 16 | | and helpful nature; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Olivarez was deeply devoted to her parish, |
---|
18 | 18 | | Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, and to the students she |
---|
19 | 19 | | taught in second grade communion and in confirmation classes; she |
---|
20 | 20 | | wrote the religious education curriculum for her church, and she |
---|
21 | 21 | | served as a catechist for 28 years; in the midst of life's |
---|
22 | 22 | | challenges, she was sustained by her strong faith, and she was an |
---|
23 | 23 | | inspiration to others as they faced difficulties of their own; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, In all her endeavors, Mrs. Olivarez enjoyed the love |
---|
25 | 25 | | and support of her husband, Rogerio Olivarez, with whom she shared a |
---|
26 | 26 | | rewarding marriage spanning nearly four decades; she was the proud |
---|
27 | 27 | | mother of a daughter, Monique, and she became a mother figure to |
---|
28 | 28 | | many students at Rio Grande City High School during her husband's |
---|
29 | 29 | | tenure as the head band director there; and |
---|
30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, While the death of Mitzie Olivarez brings great |
---|
31 | 31 | | sadness to her loved ones, she leaves behind a legacy that will long |
---|
32 | 32 | | be treasured by all those who held her dear; now, therefore, be it |
---|
33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
34 | 34 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Melicia Olivarez |
---|
35 | 35 | | and extend deepest condolences to the members of her family: to her |
---|
36 | 36 | | husband, Rogerio Olivarez; to her daughter, Monique Rene Olivarez; |

37 | 37 | | to her parents, Innocente and Alma Castillo; to her brothers, Rene |

38 | 38 | | Fuentes and his wife, Cynthia, Cosme Castillo and his wife, Rachel, |
