H.R. No. 2469 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew to a close with the passing of Melicia Olivarez of Rio Grande City on March 16, 2023, at the age of 56; and WHEREAS, The former "Mitzie" Castillo was born on September 14, 1966, to Innocente and Alma Castillo, and she grew up with three siblings, Rene, Cosme, and Orlando; a longtime employee of the Rio Grande City Grulla Independent School District, she worked for 27 years as a secretary for the gifted and talented program and later as a curriculum department secretary; over the course of her exemplary career, she distinguished herself through her strong work ethic, her organizational skills, and her generous and helpful nature; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Olivarez was deeply devoted to her parish, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, and to the students she taught in second grade communion and in confirmation classes; she wrote the religious education curriculum for her church, and she served as a catechist for 28 years; in the midst of life's challenges, she was sustained by her strong faith, and she was an inspiration to others as they faced difficulties of their own; and WHEREAS, In all her endeavors, Mrs. Olivarez enjoyed the love and support of her husband, Rogerio Olivarez, with whom she shared a rewarding marriage spanning nearly four decades; she was the proud mother of a daughter, Monique, and she became a mother figure to many students at Rio Grande City High School during her husband's tenure as the head band director there; and WHEREAS, While the death of Mitzie Olivarez brings great sadness to her loved ones, she leaves behind a legacy that will long be treasured by all those who held her dear; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Melicia Olivarez and extend deepest condolences to the members of her family: to her husband, Rogerio Olivarez; to her daughter, Monique Rene Olivarez; to her parents, Innocente and Alma Castillo; to her brothers, Rene Fuentes and his wife, Cynthia, Cosme Castillo and his wife, Rachel, and Orlando Castillo and his wife, Letty; to her honorary sisters, Velma Esparza and Araceli Barrientos; and to her many other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Mitzie Olivarez.
