H.R. No. 264
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The 100th birthday of an esteemed Texan is indeed
cause for celebration, and Stella Wilbanks of Crosby is marking
that momentous milestone in her life on February 18, 2023; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Wilbanks traces her family's roots in Texas
back to 1847 with the arrival of her great-grandfather, August
Vogelsang; she was born in Giddings to William and Elsie Smith in
1923, and after spending most of her youth in Giddings, she moved to
Austin around 1940; she later relocated to Houston and married
Charles P. Wilbanks, and the couple would eventually become the
parents of two daughters; and
WHEREAS, After her husband's passing, Mrs. Wilbanks moved
back to the family farm in Giddings, and since 2014, she has made
her home in Crosby; with the passing years, she has had the pleasure
of seeing her family grow to include two grandchildren and five
great-grandchildren; she is known for her love of dancing, sewing,
and mowing the fields on the farm; and
WHEREAS, Stella Wilbanks has witnessed a panorama of change
over the course of a century, and she has met life's challenges and
opportunities with dignity and grace, earning her the deep
admiration and affection of all who are privileged to know her; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Stella Wilbanks on the joyous
occasion of her 100th birthday and extend to her sincere best wishes
for continued happiness; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mrs. Wilbanks as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
