| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Lavona Burgess of the Flower Mound Police Department |

| 6 | 6 | | retired as director of support services on November 18, 2022, |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | drawing to a close an exemplary tenure with the agency that spanned |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | 22 years; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Burgess began her career as an emergency |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | communications officer and 9-1-1 operator for the Wise County |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Sheriff's Office in 1994, and she went on to join the Flower Mound |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Police Department on November 4, 2000; over the years, she served as |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | a communications officer, training coordinator, records clerk, |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | property and evidence analyst, and support services manager; she |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | was promoted to director of support services in 2018, and she |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | further distinguished herself as a member of the department's |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | command staff; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Among her many achievements, Ms. Burgess was |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | honored as Communications Officer of the Year in 2002 and as |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Civilian of the Year in 2009; she received her master's degree in |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | criminal justice administration from the University of North Texas; |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | in addition, she holds advanced telecommunicator certification as |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | well as advanced property and technician certification, and she is |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | a graduate of the Senior Management Institute for Police at Boston |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | University and the Institute for Law Enforcement Administration; |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Lavona Burgess has played an important role in |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | furthering the mission of the Flower Mound Police Department, and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | she may indeed reflect with pride on a career well spent as she |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | embarks on the next exciting chapter of her life; now, therefore, be |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | it |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Lavona Burgess on her retirement |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | from the Flower Mound Police Department and extend to her sincere |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
