H.R. No. 293
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Lavona Burgess of the Flower Mound Police Department
retired as director of support services on November 18, 2022,
drawing to a close an exemplary tenure with the agency that spanned
22 years; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Burgess began her career as an emergency
communications officer and 9-1-1 operator for the Wise County
Sheriff's Office in 1994, and she went on to join the Flower Mound
Police Department on November 4, 2000; over the years, she served as
a communications officer, training coordinator, records clerk,
property and evidence analyst, and support services manager; she
was promoted to director of support services in 2018, and she
further distinguished herself as a member of the department's
command staff; and
WHEREAS, Among her many achievements, Ms. Burgess was
honored as Communications Officer of the Year in 2002 and as
Civilian of the Year in 2009; she received her master's degree in
criminal justice administration from the University of North Texas;
in addition, she holds advanced telecommunicator certification as
well as advanced property and technician certification, and she is
a graduate of the Senior Management Institute for Police at Boston
University and the Institute for Law Enforcement Administration;
and
WHEREAS, Lavona Burgess has played an important role in
furthering the mission of the Flower Mound Police Department, and
she may indeed reflect with pride on a career well spent as she
embarks on the next exciting chapter of her life; now, therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Lavona Burgess on her retirement
from the Flower Mound Police Department and extend to her sincere
best wishes for the future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Ms. Burgess as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
