5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Memories of a life well lived may help to comfort |

6 | 6 | | those saddened by the passing of Jesus Maldonado of Weslaco on |

7 | 7 | | December 27, 2022, at the age of 75; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The son of Manuel and Elvia Maldonado, "Chuy" |
---|
9 | 9 | | Maldonado was born in Weslaco on December 22, 1947, and he grew up |
---|
10 | 10 | | with the companionship of six siblings, Gloria, Maria, Guadalupe, |
---|
11 | 11 | | Nilda, Nicolas, and Marta; he played on the Weslaco High School |
---|
12 | 12 | | football team, and he was awarded a scholarship to attend Pan |
---|
13 | 13 | | American University, where he earned both a bachelor's degree and a |
---|
14 | 14 | | master's degree; and |
---|
15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Maldonado enjoyed a rewarding career as a |
---|
16 | 16 | | chemist with the United States Department of Agriculture that |
---|
17 | 17 | | spanned 44 years; over the course of his tenure, he became an expert |
---|
18 | 18 | | on honey and honeybees, and he was a member of the committee that |
---|
19 | 19 | | named the Texas 1015 Sweet Onion, which is now grown throughout the |
---|
20 | 20 | | Rio Grande Valley; and |
---|
21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Maldonado benefited from |
---|
22 | 22 | | the love and support of his wife, Ernestina, whom he first met in |
---|
23 | 23 | | middle school; he was a devoted father to his three daughters, |
---|
24 | 24 | | Yvette, Yvonne, and Daisy, and with the passing years, he had the |
---|
25 | 25 | | pleasure of seeing his family grow to include seven grandchildren, |
---|
26 | 26 | | Marcus, Jiovana, Jaisy, Bryan, Brandon, Brooks, and Bryssa, and two |
---|
27 | 27 | | great-grandchildren, Ella and Logan; he doted on his wife, |
---|
28 | 28 | | daughters, and granddaughters, hand-delivering roses to each of |
---|
29 | 29 | | them on Valentine's Day, and he could be found cheering on all of |
---|
30 | 30 | | his grandchildren at their various sporting events; a devout |
---|
31 | 31 | | Catholic, he was a lifelong congregant of St. Joan of Arc Catholic |
---|
32 | 32 | | Church; and |
---|
33 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Those fortunate enough to have known Chuy Maldonado |
---|
34 | 34 | | will always remember the way he touched their lives with his warmth, |
---|
35 | 35 | | kindness, and delightful sense of humor, and they will forever hold |
---|
36 | 36 | | him close in their hearts; now, therefore, be it |
---|
37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
38 | 38 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Jesus Maldonado and |
---|
39 | 39 | | extend sincere condolences to all who mourn his passing; and, be it |
