H.R. No. 438 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Memories of a life well lived may help to comfort those saddened by the passing of Jesus Maldonado of Weslaco on December 27, 2022, at the age of 75; and WHEREAS, The son of Manuel and Elvia Maldonado, "Chuy" Maldonado was born in Weslaco on December 22, 1947, and he grew up with the companionship of six siblings, Gloria, Maria, Guadalupe, Nilda, Nicolas, and Marta; he played on the Weslaco High School football team, and he was awarded a scholarship to attend Pan American University, where he earned both a bachelor's degree and a master's degree; and WHEREAS, Mr. Maldonado enjoyed a rewarding career as a chemist with the United States Department of Agriculture that spanned 44 years; over the course of his tenure, he became an expert on honey and honeybees, and he was a member of the committee that named the Texas 1015 Sweet Onion, which is now grown throughout the Rio Grande Valley; and WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Maldonado benefited from the love and support of his wife, Ernestina, whom he first met in middle school; he was a devoted father to his three daughters, Yvette, Yvonne, and Daisy, and with the passing years, he had the pleasure of seeing his family grow to include seven grandchildren, Marcus, Jiovana, Jaisy, Bryan, Brandon, Brooks, and Bryssa, and two great-grandchildren, Ella and Logan; he doted on his wife, daughters, and granddaughters, hand-delivering roses to each of them on Valentine's Day, and he could be found cheering on all of his grandchildren at their various sporting events; a devout Catholic, he was a lifelong congregant of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church; and WHEREAS, Those fortunate enough to have known Chuy Maldonado will always remember the way he touched their lives with his warmth, kindness, and delightful sense of humor, and they will forever hold him close in their hearts; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Jesus Maldonado and extend sincere condolences to all who mourn his passing; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Chuy Maldonado.
