55 WHEREAS, The Lubbock Christian School girls' basketball team
66 once again proved itself one of the finest in the Lone Star State by
77 winning the 2023 Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools
88 3A state championship; and
99 WHEREAS, Despite having lost nine seniors to graduation, the
1010 Lady Eagles demonstrated the skill and confidence of a veteran
1111 team, excelling during the regular season and reeling off 14
1212 straight wins to claim the district title; Lubbock Christian then
1313 surged through the playoffs, dispatching Temple Christian School of
1414 Fort Worth and Denton Calvary Academy to reach the state tournament
1515 for the sixth consecutive year; posting a 66-41 semifinals decision
1616 over San Jacinto Christian Academy of Amarillo, the Lady Eagles
1717 clinched a berth in the state finale; and
1818 WHEREAS, On February 23, Lubbock Christian took the court
1919 against top-ranked Rosehill Christian School of Tomball with the
2020 state crown on the line; erasing a second-quarter deficit by going
2121 on a 17-1 run, the Lady Eagles then maintained a double-digit lead
2222 until the fourth frame; demonstrating tremendous resolve in the
2323 game's final minutes, they quelled a late rally from their foe to
2424 emerge triumphant by the final score of 57-52; with the victory, the
2525 Lady Eagles collected their third consecutive TAPPS state
2626 championship, hoisting the 3A trophy after having earned 4A titles
2727 the previous two years; and
2828 WHEREAS, Over the course of the season, Lubbock Christian
2929 received valuable contributions from each member of the roster:
3030 Olivia Phillips, Emily Galbraith, Gracee Bridges, Zaley Rivera,
3131 Addyson Rogers, Linley Bruington, Whitlee Blacklock, Ava Campbell,
3232 Katherine Dulin, Katy Evans, Hayden Hind, Raegan Lee, Quinn
3333 Bruington, Reese Bruington, and Callie Roberts; these determined
3434 student-athletes were ably led by head coach Brad Crow and his
3535 staff; and
3636 WHEREAS, By accomplishing the rare feat of winning a third
3737 state title in a row, the Lubbock Christian Lady Eagles have
3838 burnished their school's reputation as a basketball powerhouse, and
3939 all those associated with the team may reflect with pride on a job
4040 well done; now, therefore, be it
4141 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
4242 Legislature hereby congratulate the Lubbock Christian School
4343 girls' basketball team on winning the 2023 TAPPS 3A state
4444 championship and extend to the players, coaches, and staff sincere
4545 best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
4646 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4747 prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
4848 House of Representatives.
