H.R. No. 488 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The Lubbock Christian School girls' basketball team once again proved itself one of the finest in the Lone Star State by winning the 2023 Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools 3A state championship; and WHEREAS, Despite having lost nine seniors to graduation, the Lady Eagles demonstrated the skill and confidence of a veteran team, excelling during the regular season and reeling off 14 straight wins to claim the district title; Lubbock Christian then surged through the playoffs, dispatching Temple Christian School of Fort Worth and Denton Calvary Academy to reach the state tournament for the sixth consecutive year; posting a 66-41 semifinals decision over San Jacinto Christian Academy of Amarillo, the Lady Eagles clinched a berth in the state finale; and WHEREAS, On February 23, Lubbock Christian took the court against top-ranked Rosehill Christian School of Tomball with the state crown on the line; erasing a second-quarter deficit by going on a 17-1 run, the Lady Eagles then maintained a double-digit lead until the fourth frame; demonstrating tremendous resolve in the game's final minutes, they quelled a late rally from their foe to emerge triumphant by the final score of 57-52; with the victory, the Lady Eagles collected their third consecutive TAPPS state championship, hoisting the 3A trophy after having earned 4A titles the previous two years; and WHEREAS, Over the course of the season, Lubbock Christian received valuable contributions from each member of the roster: Olivia Phillips, Emily Galbraith, Gracee Bridges, Zaley Rivera, Addyson Rogers, Linley Bruington, Whitlee Blacklock, Ava Campbell, Katherine Dulin, Katy Evans, Hayden Hind, Raegan Lee, Quinn Bruington, Reese Bruington, and Callie Roberts; these determined student-athletes were ably led by head coach Brad Crow and his staff; and WHEREAS, By accomplishing the rare feat of winning a third state title in a row, the Lubbock Christian Lady Eagles have burnished their school's reputation as a basketball powerhouse, and all those associated with the team may reflect with pride on a job well done; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate the Lubbock Christian School girls' basketball team on winning the 2023 TAPPS 3A state championship and extend to the players, coaches, and staff sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
