7 | 7 | | Basketball University Interscholastic League state championship; |

9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Competing on March 6 in San Antonio, Judson battled |

10 | 10 | | for the state crown against the talented team from Huntsville High |

11 | 11 | | School; the Rockets turned in an exceptional performance, emerging |

12 | 12 | | triumphant by the final score of 33-24 to claim their inaugural |
---|
13 | 13 | | state title; and |

14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Excelling with a true team effort, the Rockets |
---|
15 | 15 | | received valuable contributions from each member of the roster; |

16 | 16 | | these determined student-athletes benefit from the leadership of |

17 | 17 | | head coach Amy Paul, an adaptive physical education teacher who |

18 | 18 | | serves as the Judson Independent School District head of delegation |

19 | 19 | | for Special Olympics; and |

20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Judson is in its second year of participation with |

21 | 21 | | Unified Champion Schools, a UIL-sanctioned Special Olympics |

22 | 22 | | program that works in partnership with the U.S. Department of |

23 | 23 | | Education to promote inclusion and acceptance among students with |
---|
24 | 24 | | and without intellectual disabilities; moreover, the initiative |
---|
25 | 25 | | fosters the principles of respect, dignity, and unity while |
---|
26 | 26 | | empowering youth to create a supportive environment on campus; and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Winning a state championship represents the |
---|
28 | 28 | | culmination of countless hours of hard work and an unwavering |
---|
29 | 29 | | commitment to excellence, and the Judson Rockets are a source of |
---|
30 | 30 | | great pride to their families, their school, and their many |
---|
31 | 31 | | supporters in the community; now, therefore, be it |

32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

33 | 33 | | Legislature hereby congratulate the Judson High School Unified |

34 | 34 | | Special Olympics team on winning the 2023 Unified Basketball UIL |
