 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, McMurry University in Abilene is marking its 100th
 anniversary in 2023; and
 WHEREAS, In 1921, Bishop William Fletcher McMurry appointed
 Dr. J. W. Hunt to establish a new Methodist college, and in 1923,
 McMurry College held its first classes with an enrollment of 200
 students; by 1926, the campus included an administration building
 and two dormitories, and a dining hall was added in 1947, followed
 by an auditorium in 1951; over the years, the campus has continued
 to grow, and a number of new facilities have been constructed,
 including a stadium, additional dormitories, classroom buildings,
 a band hall, a fine arts building, and a welcome center; in 1990,
 the institution became McMurry University; and
 WHEREAS, Today, McMurry University serves more than 1,200
 students and offers associate's, baccalaureate, and master's
 degrees in more than 40 areas of study; founded on Christian
 principles, the school challenges students to examine the world
 from multiple perspectives in preparation for lives of leadership,
 service, and professional success; and
 WHEREAS, Since its inception, McMurry University has
 provided its students with an education that has enriched them both
 academically and personally, and in so doing, it has made important
 contributions to Texas and the world beyond; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
 Legislature hereby commemorate the centennial of McMurry
 University and extend to all those associated with the institution
 sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for McMurry University as an expression of high regard by
 the Texas House of Representatives.
