44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Kimble County lost an esteemed civic leader with the
66 passing of Frederica Charlotte Burt Wyatt on October 31, 2021, at
77 the age of 91; and
88 WHEREAS, The daughter of John Matt Burt Jr. and Bessie Lee
99 Allsup Burt, the former Frederica Burt was born on a ranch near
1010 Telegraph in Kimble County on July 2, 1930, and grew up with four
1111 siblings, Andrew, Fane, Britton, and Margaret; she graduated from
1212 the Institute of Municipal Clerks at the University of North Texas
1313 and became a registered professional assessor and a member of the
1414 Board of Tax Professional Examiners; devoted to her family, she
1515 shared a fulfilling marriage with her husband, Chevis R. Wyatt,
1616 until his passing, and she was the proud mother of a daughter,
1717 Charlotte; and
1818 WHEREAS, Mrs. Wyatt began her career as secretary-bookkeeper
1919 for the City of Junction; she was promoted to city secretary and
2020 went on to become the city's first female mayor; following one term,
2121 she returned to her job as city secretary; she further benefited her
2222 community in a host of other leadership roles, including president
2323 of the Junction Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary, the American
2424 Legion Auxiliary No. 237, and the Hill Country City Secretaries
2525 Association; the first woman to join the Junction Rotary Club, she
2626 became its first female president, and she was named a Paul Harris
2727 Fellow; moreover, she was very involved in bicentennial and
2828 sesquicentennial celebrations; among other numerous accolades, she
2929 was named the 1967 Mrs. Citizen, the 1985 Kimble County Citizen of
3030 the Year, and the 1987 Texas City Secretary of the Year, and the
3131 city designated July 16, 1994, as "Frederica Wyatt Day"; and
3232 WHEREAS, When she retired after 39 years of public service,
3333 Mrs. Wyatt dedicated herself to researching the community's
3434 history and family genealogy; she was chair of the Kimble County
3535 Historical Commission and drafted the text for every historical
3636 marker in the county; in addition, she worked at the museum, oversaw
3737 the Junction City Cemetery, volunteered with the Cemetery Aid
3838 Society, and was a regent for the Daughters of the American
3939 Revolution; a talented writer, she completed a chronicle of local
4040 cemeteries and coauthored the book Coke R. Stevenson: A Texas
4141 Legend; she also wrote a weekly column, Meanderings, for the
4242 Junction Eagle and contributed to other newspapers and magazines as
4343 well; and
4444 WHEREAS, Deeply committed to her family and her community,
4545 Frederica Wyatt made a meaningful difference in the lives of her
4646 loved ones and fellow citizens alike, and her contributions will be
4747 remembered and admired for years to come; now, therefore, be it
4848 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
4949 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Frederica Charlotte
5050 Burt Wyatt and extend sincere condolences to all who mourn her
5151 passing; and, be it further
5252 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5353 prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
5454 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Frederica
5555 Wyatt.
