| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Mission Historical Museum celebrated the 20th |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | anniversary of its founding on December 21, 2022; and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, Although the Mission Historical Society took the |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | first steps to open the museum in 2000, efforts to secure a building |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | for the project were not realized until 2002, when the Mission City |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Council voted to establish the museum in the former city hall; the |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Mission Historical Museum opened its doors on December 21, 2002, |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | and through the help of donations, it has since offered admission |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | free of charge to residents and visitors to the area; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, The museum features a number of permanent and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | temporary exhibits showcasing objects and records of historical |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | significance to Mission and western Hidalgo County; in addition to |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | preserving the heritage of the area, the museum is committed to |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | playing an active role in the community, and to that end, it hosts a |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | variety of events and free programs for patrons of all ages |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | throughout the year; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, For the past two decades, the Mission Historical |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Museum has served as a resource for learning, a center for community |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | life, and an important repository of the region's history, and it is |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | fitting to acknowledge the dedicated work of the museum's |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | volunteers, staff, and supporters; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Mission |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Historical Museum and extend to all those associated with the |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | museum sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | prepared for the Mission Historical Museum as an expression of high |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | regard by the Texas House of Representatives. |
