55 relating to the maximum judgment amount awarded by a justice court
66 in certain civil cases regarding the repair of residential rental

88 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
99 SECTION 1. Section 92.0563(e), Property Code, is amended to
1010 read as follows:
1111 (e) A justice court may not award a judgment under this
1212 section, including an order of repair, that exceeds $20,000
1313 [$10,000], excluding interest and costs of court.
1414 SECTION 2. Section 92.0563(e), Property Code, as amended by
1515 this Act, applies only to a cause of action that accrues on or after
1616 the effective date of this Act. A cause of action that accrues
1717 before that date is governed by the law in effect immediately before
1818 that date, and that law is continued in effect for that purpose.
1919 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
