| 8 | 8 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 9 | 9 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 33, Health and Safety |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Code, is amended by adding Section 33.00211 to read as follows: |

| 11 | 11 | | 33.00211. DUCHENE MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY. Notwithstanding any |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | provision of this chapter, the department shall include Duchenne |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | muscular dystrophy in the detection and treatment program |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | established under this chapter, in the screening for heritable |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | diseases conducted under Subchapter B, and in the newborn screening |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | services provided under Subchapter C. |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | SECTION 12. As soon as practicable after the effective date |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | of this Act, the Department of State Health Services shall |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | implement Section 33.00211, Health and Safety Code. |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | SECTION 13. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
