A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to newborn screening.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 33, Health and Safety
Code, is amended by adding Section 33.00211 to read as follows:
33.00211. DUCHENE MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY. Notwithstanding any
provision of this chapter, the department shall include Duchenne
muscular dystrophy in the detection and treatment program
established under this chapter, in the screening for heritable
diseases conducted under Subchapter B, and in the newborn screening
services provided under Subchapter C.
SECTION 12. As soon as practicable after the effective date
of this Act, the Department of State Health Services shall
implement Section 33.00211, Health and Safety Code.
SECTION 13. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
