| 9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 130, Education Code, is |

| 11 | 11 | | amended by adding Section 130.0091 to read as follows: |

| 12 | 12 | | Sec. 130.0091. RESTRICTION ON EMPLOYMENT CONTRACTS. |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Notwithstanding any other law, the governing board of a junior |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | college district may not enter into an employment contract for a |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | term longer than one year. |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | to an employment contract entered into on or after the effective |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | date of this Act. An employment contract entered into before the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | effective date of this Act is governed by the law in effect on the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | date the agreement was entered into, and the former law is continued |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | in effect for that purpose. |

| 22 | 22 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
