A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to a restriction on an employment contract entered into by
the governing board of a junior college district.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 130, Education Code, is
amended by adding Section 130.0091 to read as follows:
Sec. 130.0091. RESTRICTION ON EMPLOYMENT CONTRACTS.
Notwithstanding any other law, the governing board of a junior
college district may not enter into an employment contract for a
term longer than one year.
SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only
to an employment contract entered into on or after the effective
date of this Act. An employment contract entered into before the
effective date of this Act is governed by the law in effect on the
date the agreement was entered into, and the former law is continued
in effect for that purpose.
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
