| 14 | 14 | | school safety training courses to employees of certain private |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | schools, child-care facilities, or organizations providing |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | out-of-school-time care. |

| 17 | 17 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 18 | 18 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter D, Chapter 37, Education Code, is |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | amended by adding Section 37.119 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Sec. 37.119. CERTAIN PRIVATE PROVIDER ACCESS TO SCHOOL |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | SAFETY TRAINING. (a) In this section: |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | (1) "Accredited private school" means a private school |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | accredited by an organization recognized by the Texas Private |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | School Accreditation Commission or the agency. |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | (2) "Child-care facility" has the meaning assigned by |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Section 42.002, Human Resources Code. |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | (3) "Organization providing out-of-school-time care" |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | includes a faith-based organization, a before-school or |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | after-school program, a summer camp, a Texas 4-H or other |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | agricultural program, and a youth sports organization. |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | (b) From money available for the purpose, a school district |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | may make available at no cost school safety training courses, |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | including active shooter training courses, approved under Section |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | 25.0815 and determined to be appropriate by the district's school |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | safety and security committee established under Section 37.109, to |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | employees of accredited private schools located in the district or |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | child-care facilities or other organizations providing |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | out-of-school-time care to children younger than 18 years of age |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | who reside in the district. |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | (c) The agency may solicit and accept gifts, grants, and |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | donations from any public or private source to pay the cost of |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | offering a school safety training course under this section. |
|---|
| 43 | 43 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
