1111 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
1212 AN ACT
1313 relating to allowing school districts to make available certain
1414 school safety training courses to employees of certain private
1515 schools, child-care facilities, or organizations providing
1616 out-of-school-time care.
1717 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1818 SECTION 1. Subchapter D, Chapter 37, Education Code, is
1919 amended by adding Section 37.119 to read as follows:
2020 Sec. 37.119. CERTAIN PRIVATE PROVIDER ACCESS TO SCHOOL
2121 SAFETY TRAINING. (a) In this section:
2222 (1) "Accredited private school" means a private school
2323 accredited by an organization recognized by the Texas Private
2424 School Accreditation Commission or the agency.
2525 (2) "Child-care facility" has the meaning assigned by
2626 Section 42.002, Human Resources Code.
2727 (3) "Organization providing out-of-school-time care"
2828 includes a faith-based organization, a before-school or
2929 after-school program, a summer camp, a Texas 4-H or other
3030 agricultural program, and a youth sports organization.
3131 (b) From money available for the purpose, a school district
3232 may make available at no cost school safety training courses,
3333 including active shooter training courses, approved under Section
3434 25.0815 and determined to be appropriate by the district's school
3535 safety and security committee established under Section 37.109, to
3636 employees of accredited private schools located in the district or
3737 child-care facilities or other organizations providing
3838 out-of-school-time care to children younger than 18 years of age
3939 who reside in the district.
4040 (c) The agency may solicit and accept gifts, grants, and
4141 donations from any public or private source to pay the cost of
4242 offering a school safety training course under this section.
4343 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
