45 SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
56 WHEREAS, The City of Dallas unveiled signs with Korean
67 translations in the Royal Lane and Harry Hines Boulevard
78 neighborhood on January 13, 2023, providing well-deserved
89 recognition for the area popularly known as Koreatown; and
910 WHEREAS, January 13 is annually celebrated as Korean American
1011 Day to commemorate the arrival of the first Korean immigrants to the
1112 United States on January 13, 1903; and
1213 WHEREAS, The Greater Dallas Korean American Chamber of
1314 Commerce, established in 1976, has been a crucial advocate for the
1415 Korean American community in Dallas; and
1516 WHEREAS, About 40 years ago, Korean Texans living in the
1617 Royal Lane and Harry Hines Boulevard neighborhood started to build
1718 businesses, and the Korean commercial district was formed; since
1819 then, the area has been transformed into a vibrant Korean wholesale
1920 and retail center; and
2021 WHEREAS, Royal Lane is a showcase of Korean culture, and a
2122 prosperous Koreatown will be a continuing source of pride for those
2223 who live and work in the area and for all Texans; and
2324 WHEREAS, The designation of Koreatown by the Texas
2425 Legislature provides well-deserved recognition for one of the
2526 largest Korean American communities in the southern United States
2627 and acknowledges the important contributions of the Korean
2728 community, not only to the City of Dallas but to the entire State of
2829 Texas; now, therefore, be it
2930 RESOLVED, That the 88th Legislature of the State of Texas
3031 hereby designate the area from the intersection of Royal Lane and
3132 Harry Hines Boulevard to the intersection of Royal Lane and Luna
3233 Road in Dallas as Koreatown Dallas; and, be it further
3334 RESOLVED, That, in accordance with the provisions of Section
3435 391.003(e), Government Code, this designation remain in effect
3536 until the 10th anniversary of the date this resolution is finally
3637 passed by the legislature.
