| 8 | 9 | | recognition for the area popularly known as Koreatown; and |

| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, January 13 is annually celebrated as Korean American |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | Day to commemorate the arrival of the first Korean immigrants to the |

| 11 | 12 | | United States on January 13, 1903; and |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | WHEREAS, The Greater Dallas Korean American Chamber of |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | Commerce, established in 1976, has been a crucial advocate for the |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | Korean American community in Dallas; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, About 40 years ago, Korean Texans living in the |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | Royal Lane and Harry Hines Boulevard neighborhood started to build |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | businesses, and the Korean commercial district was formed; since |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | then, the area has been transformed into a vibrant Korean wholesale |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | and retail center; and |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Royal Lane is a showcase of Korean culture, and a |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | prosperous Koreatown will be a continuing source of pride for those |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | who live and work in the area and for all Texans; and |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, The designation of Koreatown by the Texas |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | Legislature provides well-deserved recognition for one of the |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | largest Korean American communities in the southern United States |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | and acknowledges the important contributions of the Korean |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | community, not only to the City of Dallas but to the entire State of |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | Texas; now, therefore, be it |

| 29 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the 88th Legislature of the State of Texas |

| 30 | 31 | | hereby designate the area from the intersection of Royal Lane and |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | Harry Hines Boulevard to the intersection of Royal Lane and Luna |

| 32 | 33 | | Road in Dallas as Koreatown Dallas; and, be it further |

| 33 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That, in accordance with the provisions of Section |

| 34 | 35 | | 391.003(e), Government Code, this designation remain in effect |
