11 | 10 | | collective defense; the decades since have witnessed the evolution |

12 | 11 | | of this security relationship into a comprehensive global |

13 | 12 | | partnership; the two countries reaffirmed their commitment to a |
---|
14 | 13 | | global comprehensive strategic alliance in May 2022; reflecting the |
---|
15 | 14 | | importance of this friendship, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol |

16 | 15 | | is only the second world leader invited for a state visit by the |
---|
17 | 16 | | current administration; he will be welcomed at the White House on |
---|
18 | 17 | | April 26, 2023; and |

19 | 18 | | WHEREAS, The rise of the Republic of Korea is one of the most |

20 | 19 | | remarkable success stories of the post-World War II era; in |

21 | 20 | | partnership with the United States, the nation has promoted |
---|
22 | 21 | | regional and global prosperity stemming from shared values of |
---|
23 | 22 | | democracy, free markets, human rights, and the rule of law; and |

24 | 23 | | WHEREAS, One of the linchpins of United States foreign |
---|
25 | 24 | | policy, the Republic of Korea has played a vital role in maintaining |
---|
26 | 25 | | peace and stability in Asia and the world; moreover, the close ties |
---|
27 | 26 | | between our nations have enabled invaluable coordination and |
---|
28 | 27 | | cooperation in confronting global health crises, including H1N1 and |
---|
29 | 28 | | COVID-19; the United States and the Republic of Korea have plans to |
---|
30 | 29 | | continue their collaboration in the years to come, working together |
---|
31 | 30 | | to stabilize the global supply chain and to develop cutting-edge |
---|
32 | 31 | | technologies, including semiconductors, autonomous robotics, and |
---|
33 | 32 | | artificial intelligence; and |

34 | 33 | | WHEREAS, In addition to its longstanding relationship with |

35 | 34 | | the United States as a whole, the Republic of Korea has a strong |

36 | 35 | | connection to the Lone Star State in particular; Texas is home to |

37 | 36 | | more than 110,000 Korean Americans, and the Republic of Korea is the |
---|
38 | 37 | | state's sixth-largest trading partner; and |
---|
39 | 38 | | WHEREAS, Bound together by mutual respect and appreciation, |

40 | 39 | | as well as common interests, the Republic of Korea and the United |
---|
41 | 40 | | States take pride in an enduring friendship that has fostered |

42 | 41 | | security, economic growth, and meaningful connections among the |
---|
43 | 42 | | people of both our nations; now, therefore, be it |

44 | 43 | | RESOLVED, That the 88th Legislature of the State of Texas |

45 | 44 | | hereby commemorate the 70th anniversary of the alliance between the |
---|
46 | 45 | | Republic of Korea and the United States. |
