55 WHEREAS, Memories of a life well lived remain to comfort
66 the family and friends of Charles J. Hensley of Hawkins, who
77 passed away on February 11, 2023, at the age of 85; and
88 WHEREAS, Born in Sherman on November 25, 1937, to Gladys
99 and Dude Hensley, Charlie Hensley grew up with the companionship
1010 of two siblings, Benny and Patricia; while in high school, he
1111 struck up a friendship with the former Sonja Overbey, whom he
1212 went on to marry on July 26, 1956; during the more than 65 years
1313 they shared, they were blessed with two sons, Bud and David, as
1414 well as 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and
1515 WHEREAS, After serving as a member of the Texas Army
1616 National Guard, Mr. Hensley began his career as a game warden
1717 with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department in 1962; he reported
1818 to his first duty station in Corpus Christi, and his passion for
1919 his work drove him to excel and climb the ranks within the
2020 department; over the years, he earned promotions to Dallas
2121 district supervisor in 1972 and Fort Worth regional director in
2222 1975, and he was elevated to chief of staff in Austin in 1990; he
2323 served as director of law enforcement from 1992 until his
2424 retirement at the rank of colonel, following 34 years with the
2525 agency; and
2626 WHEREAS, Mr. Hensley was a member of the Texas Game Warden
2727 Association, the Game Warden Peace Officers Association, the
2828 Iris Society of Austin, and the Hill Country Gardeners Club; a
2929 man of faith, he was also an ordained Baptist deacon; he shared
3030 his love of gardening and working on carpentry projects with his
3131 wife, and he was fond of going on hunting trips with his friends;
3232 through the years, he and his wife enjoyed hosting gatherings at
3333 their home with game wardens, neighbors, and members of their
3434 church congregation; and
3535 WHEREAS, Charlie Hensley was an esteemed public servant, a
3636 devoted family man, and a dear friend, and he will forever be
3737 remembered with admiration and affection by those he leaves
3838 behind; now, therefore, be it
3939 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
4040 Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of Charles J. Hensley
4141 and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his
4242 wife, Sonja Hensley; to his sons, Bud Hensley and his wife,
4343 Jeana, and David Hensley and his wife, Cathy; to his
4444 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; to his sister, Patricia;
4545 and to all others who mourn his passing; and, be it further
4646 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
4747 prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns
4848 this day, it do so in memory of Charlie Hensley.
