| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize radio station KAZI FM 88.7, Austin Community Radio, on |

| 4 | 4 | | the occasion of its 40th anniversary, which was celebrated on |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | August 29, 2022; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Founded in 1982 by the late Dr. John Warfield, |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | professor of African American Studies at The University of Texas, |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | KAZI is a listener-supported, non-commercial community radio |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | station that provides music, educational programming, and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | information for the African American community and other |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | historically marginalized groups that are underserved by |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | existing local radio stations; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, The oldest community radio station in Austin, |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | KAZI began transmitting on August 29, 1982, with generous funding |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and by means of |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | tower space loaned by KLBJ Radio; KAZI has since been supported |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | by donations from listeners and commercial sponsors as well as |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | city funds contributed for the purpose of airing the weekly city |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | council meeting; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, KAZI promotes both local and national artists and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | broadcasts a unique mix of rhythm and blues, soul, hip-hop, jazz, |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | gospel, blues, reggae, and zydeco, as well as community |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | information, news, features, interviews, and more; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Staffed almost entirely by volunteers committed |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | to providing equitable media access to its diverse audience in |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | the Austin area, KAZI FM has been a vibrant part of Austin's |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | social and cultural fabric for decades, and it is truly fitting |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | that the station receive special recognition as it marks this |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | milestone in its history; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Legislature, hereby commend the staff, volunteers, patrons, and |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | listeners of KAZI 88.7 on their commitment to Austin's musical |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | heritage and extend best wishes for the station's future; and, be |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | it further |

| 35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as an |
