                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 336
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 recognize radio station KAZI FM 88.7, Austin Community Radio, on
 the occasion of its 40th anniversary, which was celebrated on
 August 29, 2022; and
 WHEREAS, Founded in 1982 by the late Dr. John Warfield,
 professor of African American Studies at The University of Texas,
 KAZI is a listener-supported, non-commercial community radio
 station that provides music, educational programming, and
 information for the African American community and other
 historically marginalized groups that are underserved by
 existing local radio stations; and
 WHEREAS, The oldest community radio station in Austin,
 KAZI began transmitting on August 29, 1982, with generous funding
 from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and by means of
 tower space loaned by KLBJ Radio; KAZI has since been supported
 by donations from listeners and commercial sponsors as well as
 city funds contributed for the purpose of airing the weekly city
 council meeting; and
 WHEREAS, KAZI promotes both local and national artists and
 broadcasts a unique mix of rhythm and blues, soul, hip-hop, jazz,
 gospel, blues, reggae, and zydeco, as well as community
 information, news, features, interviews, and more; and
 WHEREAS, Staffed almost entirely by volunteers committed
 to providing equitable media access to its diverse audience in
 the Austin area, KAZI FM has been a vibrant part of Austin's
 social and cultural fabric for decades, and it is truly fitting
 that the station receive special recognition as it marks this
 milestone in its history; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
 Legislature, hereby commend the staff, volunteers, patrons, and
 listeners of KAZI 88.7 on their commitment to Austin's musical
 heritage and extend best wishes for the station's future; and, be
 it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as an
 expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
