                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 484
 In Memory
 of
 Nancy Hughes
 WHEREAS, A caring and purposeful life came to an untimely
 end with the passing of Dr. Nancy Lefeber Hughes of Galveston on
 March 18, 2022, at the age of 67; and
 WHEREAS, Born in Galveston on December 21, 1954, to Edward
 and Ellie Lefeber, the former Nancy Ellen Lefeber grew up with
 the companionship of five older siblings, Edward, John, Robert,
 Ann, and Donald; she graduated from Ball High School in 1973 and
 married her high school sweetheart, Michael B. Hughes, in 1976;
 as the daughter of a physician and a nurse, she was drawn to
 medicine, and after earning a bachelor's degree in nursing from
 The University of Texas at Austin, she worked as a nurse at
 St. David's Hospital for 10 years; later, she continued her
 nursing career in Galveston in the intensive care unit at the
 former St. Mary's Hospital and in the oncology department of The
 University of Texas Medical Branch; and
 WHEREAS, Following in her father's footsteps, Ms. Hughes
 returned to school to study medicine, graduating from the UTMB
 Medical School in 1994, when she was 39 years old; she worked as a
 primary care physician at UTMB from 1994 to 2008, before starting
 her own private practice, Internal Medicine Associates of
 Galveston; over the years, she managed her practice with
 diligence and cared for her patients with the utmost compassion;
 and
 WHEREAS, Dr. Hughes was the devoted mother of three
 children, Laura, Katherine, and Matthew, and she was further
 blessed with two grandsons, Davis and Connor; she enjoyed hosting
 family gatherings at the home in Galveston's East End that she
 purchased and restored with her husband, and in addition to
 spending time with her loved ones, she was fond of rollerblading,
 sailing at Sea Star Base Galveston, making arts and crafts, going
 to see the Houston Grand Opera, and traveling the world; she was a
 lifelong member of Trinity Episcopal Church, where she displayed
 her beautiful singing voice, and she also played the violin in
 the Galveston Symphony Orchestra for many years alongside her
 husband, a cellist; and
 WHEREAS, While the passing of Dr. Nancy Hughes brings
 great sadness to her family, friends, and patients, she leaves
 behind a legacy that will forever be cherished; now, therefore,
 be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
 Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of Dr. Nancy Lefeber
 Hughes and extend deepest sympathy to all those who mourn her
 passing; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
 prepared for her family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns
 this day, it do so in memory of Dr. Nancy Lefeber Hughes.
