| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | to a close with the passing of Maria T. Gutierrez of Willacy |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | County on April 15, 2019, at the age of 72; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The daughter of Eutimio and Teresa Gutierrez, |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Mary Gutierrez was born in Sarita on October 2, 1946, and she grew |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | up with the companionship of nine siblings; throughout her life, |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | she worked to help and support others, and she was a devoted and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | loyal friend to many; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Gutierrez became city commissioner of |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Raymondville in 1999, and she held that office for 16 years |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | before concluding her tenure in 2015; dedicated to her community, |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | she was a member of the Raymondville Chamber of Commerce board of |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | directors, and she was active in numerous civic organizations, |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | including Raymondville Amigos Del Valle, Willacy County Little |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | League, Court Appointed Special Advocates, Su Clinica Familiar, |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | and the Willacy County Child Welfare Board; in addition, she was |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | a former member of the Lower Rio Grande Valley Development |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Council; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, On January 1, 2001, Ms. Gutierrez joined the |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Willacy County Emergency Service District Board, and she was |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | elected president of the board in 2015; she ably led the |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | organization until her passing, and she is being posthumously |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | honored with the dedication of its building in her memory; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Through her leadership, generosity, and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | commitment to service, Mary Gutierrez made a positive difference |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | in the lives of countless Willacy County residents, and her |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | contributions will continue to resonate for years to come; now, |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life and legacy of |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | Maria T. Gutierrez; and, be it further |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | prepared for her family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | this day, it do so in memory of Mary Gutierrez. |
