SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 667
WHEREAS, The Juneteenth Cultural Celebration Gala is
taking place on June 17, 2023, hosted by YWCA El Paso del Norte
Region; and
WHEREAS, The oldest known observance commemorating the end
of slavery in the United States, Juneteenth celebrates the
emancipation in June 1865 of enslaved African Americans in Texas;
and
WHEREAS, The Juneteenth Cultural Celebration Gala is
honoring the holiday with a much-anticipated black-tie event at
Abraham Chavez Theatre; the gala includes a reception, an art
auction, and a Juneteenth history exhibit, as well as
performances highlighting Black excellence in the arts through
the decades; and
WHEREAS, Proceeds will benefit YWCA El Paso del Norte
Region and The Great Khalid Foundation and will support both
organizations' art, music, and cultural enrichment programs for
early childhood and school-aged children throughout the
Borderplex region; and
WHEREAS, More than 150 years after emancipation was
proclaimed in Texas, Juneteenth continues to inspire gatherings
that pay tribute to the myriad achievements and immeasurable
fortitude of the African American community, and the Juneteenth
Cultural Celebration Gala is furthering that proud tradition in
the El Paso area; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
Legislature, hereby commemorate the Juneteenth Cultural
Celebration Gala hosted by YWCA El Paso del Norte Region and
extend to all those in attendance sincere best wishes for a
memorable and meaningful event; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
prepared for YWCA El Paso del Norte Region as an expression of
high regard from the Texas Senate.
