5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the |

6 | 6 | | passing of Peter R. Rose of Austin on December 19, 2022, at the age |
---|
7 | 7 | | of 87; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, A fifth-generation Texan, Pete Rose was born to Mary |
---|
9 | 9 | | Paterson and Llewellyn Rose on July 3, 1935, in Austin, and he grew |
---|
10 | 10 | | up with a brother, Pat, and a sister, Sally; he graduated from |
---|
11 | 11 | | Austin High School with the Class of 1953 and continued his |
---|
12 | 12 | | education at The University of Texas at Austin, where he earned |
---|
13 | 13 | | bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees in geology; and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of his career as a geologist, |
---|
15 | 15 | | Mr. Rose worked for Shell, Stony Brook University, the |
---|
16 | 16 | | U.S. Geological Survey, and Energy Reserves Group, Inc.; in 1980, |
---|
17 | 17 | | he became an independent consulting geologist, and he spent a |
---|
18 | 18 | | number of years providing corporate training in petroleum |
---|
19 | 19 | | exploration risk analysis before founding Rose & Associates in |
---|
20 | 20 | | 1999; over the years, he published more than 80 papers on a variety |
---|
21 | 21 | | of geotechnical topics as well as a definitive book on petroleum |
---|
22 | 22 | | exploration; he also gained a reputation as a leading authority on |
---|
23 | 23 | | the geology and history of the Edwards Plateau; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Active in his professional community, Mr. Rose |
---|
25 | 25 | | served as president of the American Association of Petroleum |
---|
26 | 26 | | Geologists and the Austin Geological Society, and he was a fellow of |
---|
27 | 27 | | a number of geological organizations; in recognition of his |
---|
28 | 28 | | accomplishments, he received the Silver Medal from the Geological |
---|
29 | 29 | | Society of London and the Michael T. Halbouty Outstanding |
---|
30 | 30 | | Leadership Award from AAPG; a man of faith, he was a valued |
---|
31 | 31 | | congregant of Westlake Hills Presbyterian Church; and |
---|
32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, In 1956, Mr. Rose wed Judith Sue Drummond, and |
---|
33 | 33 | | though their marriage eventually ended, it brought into Mr. Rose's |
---|
34 | 34 | | life three beloved daughters, Virginia, Cathy, and Peggy; he later |
---|
35 | 35 | | married Karen Watkins, and they divorced in 1987; for 34 years, he |
---|
36 | 36 | | shared his life with Alice Haldeman Reid, whom he married in 1989, |
---|
37 | 37 | | and together they created a blended family that included his |
---|
38 | 38 | | stepchildren, Wally and Jennifer; with the passing years, he was |
---|
39 | 39 | | further blessed with eight grandchildren, Jack, Ben, Beau, Maya, |
---|
40 | 40 | | McKenna, McKittrick, Cade, and Edie; and |
---|
41 | 41 | | WHEREAS, Although Pete Rose will be deeply missed, he has |
---|
42 | 42 | | left his family and friends with a wealth of memories that they will |
---|
43 | 43 | | forever treasure; now, therefore, be it |
---|
44 | 44 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
45 | 45 | | Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of |
---|
46 | 46 | | Peter R. Rose and extend heartfelt sympathy to all who mourn his |
---|
47 | 47 | | passing; and, be it further |
---|
48 | 48 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
---|
49 | 49 | | prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
---|
50 | 50 | | Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Pete Rose. |
