 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the
 passing of Peter R. Rose of Austin on December 19, 2022, at the age
 of 87; and
 WHEREAS, A fifth-generation Texan, Pete Rose was born to Mary
 Paterson and Llewellyn Rose on July 3, 1935, in Austin, and he grew
 up with a brother, Pat, and a sister, Sally; he graduated from
 Austin High School with the Class of 1953 and continued his
 education at The University of Texas at Austin, where he earned
 bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees in geology; and
 WHEREAS, Over the course of his career as a geologist,
 Mr. Rose worked for Shell, Stony Brook University, the
 U.S. Geological Survey, and Energy Reserves Group, Inc.; in 1980,
 he became an independent consulting geologist, and he spent a
 number of years providing corporate training in petroleum
 exploration risk analysis before founding Rose & Associates in
 1999; over the years, he published more than 80 papers on a variety
 of geotechnical topics as well as a definitive book on petroleum
 exploration; he also gained a reputation as a leading authority on
 the geology and history of the Edwards Plateau; and
 WHEREAS, Active in his professional community, Mr. Rose
 served as president of the American Association of Petroleum
 Geologists and the Austin Geological Society, and he was a fellow of
 a number of geological organizations; in recognition of his
 accomplishments, he received the Silver Medal from the Geological
 Society of London and the Michael T. Halbouty Outstanding
 Leadership Award from AAPG; a man of faith, he was a valued
 congregant of Westlake Hills Presbyterian Church; and
 WHEREAS, In 1956, Mr. Rose wed Judith Sue Drummond, and
 though their marriage eventually ended, it brought into Mr. Rose's
 life three beloved daughters, Virginia, Cathy, and Peggy; he later
 married Karen Watkins, and they divorced in 1987; for 34 years, he
 shared his life with Alice Haldeman Reid, whom he married in 1989,
 and together they created a blended family that included his
 stepchildren, Wally and Jennifer; with the passing years, he was
 further blessed with eight grandchildren, Jack, Ben, Beau, Maya,
 McKenna, McKittrick, Cade, and Edie; and
 WHEREAS, Although Pete Rose will be deeply missed, he has
 left his family and friends with a wealth of memories that they will
 forever treasure; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
 Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of
 Peter R. Rose and extend heartfelt sympathy to all who mourn his
 passing; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Pete Rose.
