SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 13 WHEREAS, The retirement of Jim Yeonopolus as chancellor of Central Texas College on August 31, 2023, concludes 50 years of dedicated service to the institution; and WHEREAS, A veteran of the United States Air Force, Mr. Yeonopolus completed a four-year tour of duty before embarking on his career at CTC as a counselor for student services; through the years, he held positions of increasing responsibility as dean, assistant deputy chancellor, and deputy chancellor, and he went on to be appointed as the college's fourth chancellor on November 19, 2015; along the way, he has demonstrated a strong commitment to supporting veterans and members of the military in achieving their educational goals at CTC; and WHEREAS, Mr. Yeonopolus earned his bachelor's degree from Texas State University and his master's degree from the University of Arizona; he previously served as campaign chair of the United Way of the Greater Fort Hood Area and as president of the Council of College and Military Educators, which honored him with several awards for his commitment to the advancement of military and veteran education; he shares his time and expertise with the boards of the Central Texas Workforce Commission, the Association of the United States Army, the National Association of Institutions for Military Education Services, and the Killeen Rodeo Association; moreover, he was appointed by Governor Greg Abbott to the Task Force on Academic Credit and Industry Recognition, and he was selected to serve as an executive council member and chair for the Texas State Delegation of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges; and WHEREAS, Honored with numerous accolades over the years, Mr. Yeonopolus received a 2021 Congressional Veteran Commendation by U.S. Congressman John Carter for his service to his community and nation; he was also named Airborne Man of the Year by the Vietnamese Airborne Society in 2008, and he was a recipient of the 2017 Leon Valley Silver Eagle Award by the Longhorn Council of Scouts BSA; and WHEREAS, Jim Yeonopolus has led Central Texas College with tremendous vision, energy, and dedication, and he may indeed reflect with pride on his outstanding record of service and the lasting impact he has had on the lives of generations of students; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby honor Jim Yeonopolus on his retirement as chancellor of Central Texas College and extend to him sincere appreciation for his many years of service; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be prepared for Mr. Yeonopolus as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
