 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, The State of Texas lost an esteemed civil engineer
 with the passing of Marquis Gideon Goode Jr. of Dallas on June 18,
 2023, at the age of 101; and
 WHEREAS, Mark Goode was born in Quinlan on August 12, 1921,
 and he grew up in Dallas; while a student at Texas A&M University
 and a member of the Corps of Cadets, he was commissioned in the U.S.
 Army; following his service in World War II, he returned to Texas
 A&M to complete his civil engineering degree; and
 WHEREAS, In 1947, Mr. Goode began a four-decade career with
 the Texas State Department of Highways and Public Transportation,
 serving as a civil engineer and ultimately as agency director
 before his retirement in 1986; he demonstrated visionary leadership
 throughout his tenure, overseeing major growth in road construction
 and the development of the Interstate Highway System; moreover, he
 helped create employment opportunities for women and minorities;
 and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Goode further contributed to his profession as
 president of the Western Association of State Highway and
 Transportation Officials and through his active involvement with
 the American Association of State Highway and Transportation
 Officials and the Transportation Research Board; in recognition of
 his many accomplishments, he was inducted into the Texas
 Transportation Hall of Honor and named a recipient of AASHTO's
 highest accolade, the MacDonald Memorial Award; and
 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Goode enjoyed the love and
 support of his wife of 79 years, Lucille McDermott Goode, who
 preceded him in death in 2021; they were the devoted parents of two
 children, Scott and Mark, and they welcomed a host of grandchildren
 and great-grandchildren into their family; and
 WHEREAS, While the passing of Mark Goode brings great sadness
 to his loved ones, he leaves behind a legacy that will long be
 treasured by all those who held him dear; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature, 3rd
 Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Marquis Gideon
 Goode Jr. and extend heartfelt condolences to the members of his
 family: to his son, Scott Goode, and his wife, Wanda; to his
 daughter-in-law, Dianne Goode; to his grandchildren, Mark and Alex
 Goode, Christopher and Dianne Irwin, Hunter Michael Carl Goode, and
 Mac, Meg, Kate, and Charles and Allison Goode; to his
 great-grandchildren, Mark and Micah Drew Goode, and Wesley, Connor,
 and Shepherd Irwin; to his niece, Linda Goode; and to his other
 relatives and friends; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this
 day, it do so in memory of Mark Goode.
