2	6		WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
3	7		recognize Dr. William Lawhorn on his dedicated service to the
4	8		people of Texas and to the United States; and
5	9		WHEREAS, Bill Lawhorn is a distinguished veteran of World
6	10		War II who is beloved and respected by the members of his
7	11		community, and his strength and valor have been a source of
8	12		inspiration to his family and friends; and
9	13		WHEREAS, Bill was a student at Rockwall High School during
10	14		the years of the Second World War; endowed with a patriotic
11	15		spirit and a love of country, he dreamed of becoming a pilot in
12	16		the United States military, and in 1944, he enlisted in the
13	17		United States Army Air Corps; and
14	18		WHEREAS, A man of courage and integrity, Bill was esteemed
15	19		by his fellow service members for his uncompromising work ethic
16	20		and dedication to duty; a shining example to others, he upheld
17	21		the highest standards of the United States Army Air Corps, and
18	22		when his squadron of 125 soldiers was disassembled, Bill was one
19	23		of only eight who were chosen to remain in the air corps; and
20	24		WHEREAS, Throughout his time in the military, Bill served
21	25		his countrymen and fellow soldiers with honor and distinction; at
22	26		the age of 97, Dr. Lawhorn has lived a remarkable life, and it is
23	27		truly fitting that he receive special recognition on his many
24	28		contributions to our state and nation; now, therefore, be it
25	29		RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
26	30		Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby recognize Dr. William
27	31		Lawhorn as a treasured Texan and extend to him sincere gratitude
28	32		for his service and best wishes for the future; and, be it further
29	33		RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
30	34		him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
