SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 68 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Dr. William Lawhorn on his dedicated service to the people of Texas and to the United States; and WHEREAS, Bill Lawhorn is a distinguished veteran of World War II who is beloved and respected by the members of his community, and his strength and valor have been a source of inspiration to his family and friends; and WHEREAS, Bill was a student at Rockwall High School during the years of the Second World War; endowed with a patriotic spirit and a love of country, he dreamed of becoming a pilot in the United States military, and in 1944, he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps; and WHEREAS, A man of courage and integrity, Bill was esteemed by his fellow service members for his uncompromising work ethic and dedication to duty; a shining example to others, he upheld the highest standards of the United States Army Air Corps, and when his squadron of 125 soldiers was disassembled, Bill was one of only eight who were chosen to remain in the air corps; and WHEREAS, Throughout his time in the military, Bill served his countrymen and fellow soldiers with honor and distinction; at the age of 97, Dr. Lawhorn has lived a remarkable life, and it is truly fitting that he receive special recognition on his many contributions to our state and nation; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby recognize Dr. William Lawhorn as a treasured Texan and extend to him sincere gratitude for his service and best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
