SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 9
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize DeMarcus Ware on his outstanding 12-season career in
the National Football League and on his induction into the Dallas
Cowboys Ring of Honor; and
WHEREAS, The Dallas Cowboys legend and all-time sack
leader was recently inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame's
Class of 2023, and on October 29, 2023, he will be inducted into
the Dallas Cowboys Ring of Honor; and
WHEREAS, DeMarcus Ware was selected in the first round of
the 2005 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys, making him the 11th
overall pick in that year's draft; he started all 16 games of his
first season as right outside linebacker and quickly rose to
prominence for his extraordinary talent, amassing 58 tackles and
a team-best of eight sacks; and
WHEREAS, He led the Cowboys for the next seven seasons and
was the NFL's leader in sacks in 2008 and 2010; DeMarcus played with
the Cowboys until 2013, when he signed with the Denver Broncos; he
played three seasons with the Broncos and helped the team reach
victory in Super Bowl 50 against the Carolina Panthers; and
WHEREAS, During his career, Ware started 173 of the 178
games he played and registered 138.5 sacks; in his final season
with the Cowboys, he established the team's career record of 117
sacks, which still stands today; voted first-team All-Pro four
times, he was selected to play in nine Pro Bowls, and he was named
a member of the NFL's All-Decade Team of the 2000s; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his outstanding career in
professional football, DeMarcus is a devoted and loving father to
his son and daughter and an exemplary citizen who gives
generously to help others; he is actively involved in a number of
charitable organizations dedicated to helping vulnerable
children and to fighting hunger and homelessness, and he has been
recognized numerous times over the years for his personal
accomplishments as well as for his philanthropy and his positive
influence in his community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commend DeMarcus Ware on
his many contributions to our state and on his impressive
achievements in the NFL and extend to him congratulations on his
induction into the Dallas Cowboys Ring of Honor and best wishes
for continued success in his endeavors; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
