| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Argyle Independent School District is hosting a |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | dedication ceremony on November 13, 2023, to name its |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | administration building in honor of retired superintendent |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Dr. Telena Wright; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Wright joined Argyle ISD in 2000 as principal of |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Argyle High School, and she went on to serve as the district's |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | assistant superintendent before being installed as superintendent |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | in 2009; during the course of her outstanding 15-year tenure as |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | superintendent, she oversaw three successful bond programs that |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | included the addition of several new campuses as well as |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | renovations and other improvements to existing campuses; moreover, |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | district enrollment increased from 1,700 to some 5,000 students, |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | and she guided a team to develop a 10-year growth plan for the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | district; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Under Dr. Wright's able leadership, Argyle ISD |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | received a number of honors, including an A accountability rating |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | from the Texas Education Agency and a district score of 97, the |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | highest in the district's history; in addition, Argyle High |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | achieved statewide success in University Interscholastic League |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | competitions, earning 12 Lone Star Cup awards; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Wright holds a bachelor's degree from The |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | University of Texas at Austin, a master's degree in education from |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Hardin-Simmons University, and a doctorate in education from the |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | University of North Texas; she began her career as a math teacher in |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | San Angelo ISD, where she also served as an elementary and high |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | school counselor, and she later served as an adjunct instructor at |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | UNT; and |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Throughout her tenure with Argyle ISD, Dr. Telena |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Wright demonstrated the passion, determination, and innovative |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | spirit that are the hallmarks of our best educators, and the naming |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | of the district administration building in her honor is a fitting |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | tribute to her many contributions; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby commemorate the dedication |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | of the Argyle ISD Dr. Telena L. Wright Administration Building and |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | commend Dr. Wright for her exemplary record of service; and, be it |
