H.R. No. 28
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Argyle Independent School District is hosting a
dedication ceremony on November 13, 2023, to name its
administration building in honor of retired superintendent
Dr. Telena Wright; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Wright joined Argyle ISD in 2000 as principal of
Argyle High School, and she went on to serve as the district's
assistant superintendent before being installed as superintendent
in 2009; during the course of her outstanding 15-year tenure as
superintendent, she oversaw three successful bond programs that
included the addition of several new campuses as well as
renovations and other improvements to existing campuses; moreover,
district enrollment increased from 1,700 to some 5,000 students,
and she guided a team to develop a 10-year growth plan for the
district; and
WHEREAS, Under Dr. Wright's able leadership, Argyle ISD
received a number of honors, including an A accountability rating
from the Texas Education Agency and a district score of 97, the
highest in the district's history; in addition, Argyle High
achieved statewide success in University Interscholastic League
competitions, earning 12 Lone Star Cup awards; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Wright holds a bachelor's degree from The
University of Texas at Austin, a master's degree in education from
Hardin-Simmons University, and a doctorate in education from the
University of North Texas; she began her career as a math teacher in
San Angelo ISD, where she also served as an elementary and high
school counselor, and she later served as an adjunct instructor at
UNT; and
WHEREAS, Throughout her tenure with Argyle ISD, Dr. Telena
Wright demonstrated the passion, determination, and innovative
spirit that are the hallmarks of our best educators, and the naming
of the district administration building in her honor is a fitting
tribute to her many contributions; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby commemorate the dedication
of the Argyle ISD Dr. Telena L. Wright Administration Building and
commend Dr. Wright for her exemplary record of service; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Dr. Wright as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
