44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Lone Star College-University Park is celebrating
66 the grand opening of its new Visual and Performing Arts Center with
77 a ribbon-cutting ceremony on December 6, 2023; and
88 WHEREAS, The $29.3 million project was first announced in
99 late 2019, and construction began on May 31, 2022; the
1010 30,000-square-foot center features art, drama, and music
1111 classrooms as well as a wide range of other facilities, including an
1212 art gallery, a band hall, a 338-seat main-stage theater with an
1313 orchestra pit, and a 100-seat black box theater; in addition,
1414 visual and performing arts students will be able to use the center
1515 to showcase their work, performances, and exhibits; and
1616 WHEREAS, The center's grand opening event includes a
1717 ribbon-cutting ceremony, guided tours of the new building, and a
1818 drama performance of A Christmas Carol; and
1919 WHEREAS, The Visual and Performing Arts Center will enable
2020 Lone Star College students to better develop their talents and
2121 potential, and it is sure to serve as an invaluable resource for the
2222 campus and for the greater community; now, therefore, be it
2323 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
2424 Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby commemorate the grand
2525 opening of the Visual and Performing Arts Center at Lone Star
2626 College-University Park and commend all those involved in bringing
2727 this project to fruition; and, be it further
2828 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2929 prepared for the university as an expression of high regard by the
3030 Texas House of Representatives.
