| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Lone Star College-University Park is celebrating |

| 6 | 6 | | the grand opening of its new Visual and Performing Arts Center with |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | a ribbon-cutting ceremony on December 6, 2023; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The $29.3 million project was first announced in |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | late 2019, and construction began on May 31, 2022; the |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | 30,000-square-foot center features art, drama, and music |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | classrooms as well as a wide range of other facilities, including an |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | art gallery, a band hall, a 338-seat main-stage theater with an |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | orchestra pit, and a 100-seat black box theater; in addition, |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | visual and performing arts students will be able to use the center |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | to showcase their work, performances, and exhibits; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, The center's grand opening event includes a |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | ribbon-cutting ceremony, guided tours of the new building, and a |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | drama performance of A Christmas Carol; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, The Visual and Performing Arts Center will enable |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Lone Star College students to better develop their talents and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | potential, and it is sure to serve as an invaluable resource for the |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | campus and for the greater community; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby commemorate the grand |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | opening of the Visual and Performing Arts Center at Lone Star |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | College-University Park and commend all those involved in bringing |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | this project to fruition; and, be it further |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

| 29 | 29 | | prepared for the university as an expression of high regard by the |
|---|
