5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of William |
---|
6 | 6 | | Henderson Bowlin, a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, who passed away |
---|
7 | 7 | | on September 29, 2023, at the age of 93; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The son of Hazel Mabel Pickering Bowlin and |
---|
9 | 9 | | Henderson Wakefield Bowlin, William Bowlin was born in Worth |
---|
10 | 10 | | County, Missouri, on July 30, 1930, and grew up on the family farm |
---|
11 | 11 | | with a sister, Betty; he completed his bachelor's degree in civil |
---|
12 | 12 | | engineering at Missouri University of Science and |
---|
13 | 13 | | Technology-Rolla; on August 8, 1951, he married the former Cora Mae |
---|
14 | 14 | | Stabe, and they eventually became the parents of five children, |
---|
15 | 15 | | Stephanie, Stanley, Suzanne, Sandra, and Sonya; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Bowlin served in the army from 1952 to 1954; he |
---|
17 | 17 | | trained at Fort Lewis in Washington and then helped France rebuild |
---|
18 | 18 | | its infrastructure; while living in the country, he and his wife |
---|
19 | 19 | | formed many lasting friendships; he held the rank of first |
---|
20 | 20 | | lieutenant and earned the National Defense Service Medal; and |
---|
21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, During the late 1950s, the Bowlins lived in Dallas; |
---|
22 | 22 | | Mr. Bowlin worked as a civil engineer and then followed his dream of |
---|
23 | 23 | | entrepreneurship, establishing a commercial insulation business; |
---|
24 | 24 | | an early adopter of technology, he purchased one of the first |
---|
25 | 25 | | personal computers, a Radio Shack TRS-80, and he learned to write |
---|
26 | 26 | | code that he used in his business; he owned 22 personal computers |
---|
27 | 27 | | over the years; and |
---|
28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Bowlin was a humble, hardworking man; deeply |
---|
29 | 29 | | devoted to his family, he loved reunions and other gatherings; in |
---|
30 | 30 | | addition, he enjoyed genealogy research, and he was able to trace |
---|
31 | 31 | | both his and his wife's roots back to the 1500s; Mrs. Bowlin passed |
---|
32 | 32 | | away in 2019, and his daughter, Suzanne, became his primary |
---|
33 | 33 | | caregiver; and |
---|
34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Although William Bowlin is sadly missed by his |
---|
35 | 35 | | friends and loved ones, he leaves behind a legacy that will long be |
---|
36 | 36 | | treasured by all those who held him dear; now, therefore, be it |
---|
37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
38 | 38 | | Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of |
---|
39 | 39 | | William Henderson Bowlin and extend sincere sympathy to the members |
---|
40 | 40 | | of his family: to his children, Stephanie Miller, Stanley Bowlin |

41 | 41 | | and his wife, Cheryl, Suzanne Bowlin, Sandra Luckcuck and her |

42 | 42 | | husband, Alan, and Sonya Downs and her husband, Bill; to his |

43 | 43 | | grandchildren and their spouses, David and Mary Miller, Max Miller, |
