77 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
88 AN ACT
99 relating to a study on the increased incidence of cancer in female
1010 firefighters in this state.
1111 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1212 SECTION 1. (a) In this Act:
1313 (1) "Commission" means the Texas Commission on Fire
1414 Protection.
1515 (2) "Department" means the Department of State Health
1616 Services.
1717 (3) "Registry" means the cancer registry established
1818 under Chapter 82, Health and Safety Code.
1919 (b) The department, in collaboration with the commission
2020 and using registry information, shall conduct a study on the
2121 increased incidence of cancer in female firefighters in this state.
2222 (c) In conducting the study, the department and commission
2323 shall, using registry information and data collected from readily
2424 available sources, compare cancer rates among female firefighters
2525 in this state to cancer rates among other women, focusing on cancers
2626 specific to women, including ovarian and breast cancer.
2727 (d) Not later than September 1, 2026:
2828 (1) the department shall prepare and submit to the
2929 legislature a written report containing the results of the study
3030 and any recommendations for legislative or other action; and
3131 (2) the department and commission shall make the
3232 report publicly available by posting the report on the agencies'
3333 and registry's respective Internet websites.
3434 (e) This Act expires September 1, 2027.
3535 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
