| 11 | 11 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 12 | 12 | | SECTION 1. (a) In this Act: |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | (1) "Commission" means the Texas Commission on Fire |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Protection. |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | (2) "Department" means the Department of State Health |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Services. |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | (3) "Registry" means the cancer registry established |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | under Chapter 82, Health and Safety Code. |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | (b) The department, in collaboration with the commission |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | and using registry information, shall conduct a study on the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | increased incidence of cancer in female firefighters in this state. |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | (c) In conducting the study, the department and commission |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | shall, using registry information and data collected from readily |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | available sources, compare cancer rates among female firefighters |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | in this state to cancer rates among other women, focusing on cancers |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | specific to women, including ovarian and breast cancer. |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | (d) Not later than September 1, 2026: |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | (1) the department shall prepare and submit to the |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | legislature a written report containing the results of the study |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | and any recommendations for legislative or other action; and |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | (2) the department and commission shall make the |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | report publicly available by posting the report on the agencies' |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | and registry's respective Internet websites. |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | (e) This Act expires September 1, 2027. |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
