78 AN ACT
89 relating to information and data regarding the incidence of veteran
910 deaths in this state.
1011 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1112 SECTION 1. Section 193.006, Health and Safety Code, is
1213 amended by amending Subsection (d) and adding Subsection (e) to
1314 read as follows:
1415 (d) When the death certificate of a person to which this
1516 section applies is filed with the vital statistics unit, the
1617 department [state registrar] shall submit to [notify] the Texas
1718 Veterans Commission deidentified information on the person's:
1819 (1) manner of death, only if the death was by suicide
1920 or homicide;
2021 (2) age;
2122 (3) race;
22- (4) previous use of psychotropic drugs;
23- (5) sex; and
24- (6) occupation.

2525 (e) Not later than September 1 of each year, the Texas
2626 Veterans Commission shall prepare and submit to the standing
2727 committees of the legislature with primary jurisdiction over
2828 veterans affairs and publish on the commission's Internet website a
2929 written report that contains:
3030 (1) aggregated data based on the information the
3131 commission receives under Subsection (d) for the preceding year;
3232 (2) an evaluation of that data; and
3333 (3) any recommendations for legislative or other
3434 action.
3535 SECTION 2. Not later than September 1, 2027, the Texas
3636 Veterans Commission shall prepare and submit the initial report
3737 required by Section 193.006(e), Health and Safety Code, as added by
3838 this Act.
3939 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
