 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 AN ACT
 relating to the election dates for certain special and runoff
 elections.
 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 SECTION 1.  Section 2.025(d), Election Code, is amended to
 read as follows:
 (d)  A runoff election for a special election [to fill a
 vacancy in Congress or a special election to fill a vacancy in the
 legislature], except an election ordered as an emergency election
 under Section 41.0011 or an election held as an expedited election
 under Section 203.013, shall be held not [earlier than the 70th day
 or] later than the 30th [77th] day after the date the final canvass
 of the main election is completed.
 SECTION 2.  Section 41.007(b), Election Code, is amended to
 read as follows:
 (b)  The runoff primary election date is the fourth Tuesday
 [in May] following the general primary election.
 SECTION 3.  Section 203.004(a), Election Code, is amended to
 read as follows:
 (a)  Except as provided by Subsection (b), a special election
 shall be held not later than the 90th day after the date the vacancy
 occurs, unless the vacancy occurs on or after the 120th day before
 and not later than the 36th day before the date of the next uniform
 election date, in which case the special election shall be held on
 the first uniform election date occurring on or after the 36th day
 after the date the election is ordered.
 SECTION 4.  This Act applies only to an election ordered on
 or after the effective date of this Act.
 SECTION 5.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
