77 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
88 AN ACT
99 relating to the payment of an award for certain health care expenses
1010 under the Crime Victims' Compensation Act.
1111 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1212 SECTION 1. Article 56B.104, Code of Criminal Procedure, is
1313 amended by adding Subsection (e) to read as follows:
1414 (e) Notwithstanding any other law, not later than the 10th
1515 day after the date on which an application for compensation
1616 described by Article 56B.051 is filed, the attorney general shall
1717 award compensation to the victim or claimant in the amount of any
1818 copays paid for health care services obtained as a result of the
1919 criminally injurious conduct.
2020 SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only
2121 to an application for compensation under Chapter 56B, Code of
2222 Criminal Procedure, filed on or after the effective date of this
2323 Act. An application for compensation filed before the effective
2424 date of this Act is governed by the law in effect on the date the
2525 application was filed, and the former law is continued in effect for
2626 that purpose.
2727 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
