11 | 11 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
12 | 12 | SECTION 1. Article 56B.104, Code of Criminal Procedure, is | |
13 | 13 | amended by adding Subsection (e) to read as follows: | |
14 | 14 | (e) Notwithstanding any other law, not later than the 10th | |
15 | 15 | day after the date on which an application for compensation | |
16 | 16 | described by Article 56B.051 is filed, the attorney general shall | |
17 | 17 | award compensation to the victim or claimant in the amount of any | |
18 | 18 | copays paid for health care services obtained as a result of the | |
19 | 19 | criminally injurious conduct. | |
20 | 20 | SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only | |
21 | 21 | to an application for compensation under Chapter 56B, Code of | |
22 | 22 | Criminal Procedure, filed on or after the effective date of this | |
23 | 23 | Act. An application for compensation filed before the effective | |
24 | 24 | date of this Act is governed by the law in effect on the date the | |
25 | 25 | application was filed, and the former law is continued in effect for | |
26 | 26 | that purpose. | |
27 | 27 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
